The Great North Art Show 2012 opened with a private view on Friday 31st August, and finished on Sunday 23rd September. Over 20% of the work on display was purchased. A team of dedicated volunteers helped to hang the art work, man the sales desk and then dismantle it all.

In conjunction with the Ripon International Festival, an evening of familiar music was performed on Thursday 6th September

The 2012 prize for the best body of work, sponsored by Carter Jonas, went to Piers Browne.

The 2012 judges of the prize were Simon Palmer, a former Royal Academy judge and Jane Sellars, the doyenne of the Mercer Gallery in Harrogate and celebrated contributor to BBC 4's 'Front Row' programme.
